1. Delete the Upgrade folder

In your cPanel, locate the ‘Upgrade’ folder or directory and delete it. You can find it within the wp-content directory. Then try to upgrade automatically.

2. Deactivate your plugins.

Deactivate first all of your plugins and then try the automatic upgrade. It works like a charm most of the time.

I’ve read in a business book (the title eludes me at this time) which says Filipinos have a servitude mindset. Is it our upbringing? Remember when our parents would remind us to study hard so that we would have a good-paying job?

Perhaps that is why in our society, a person who has a college degree is admired because he is expected to have a ‘good job’. After studying for 14 years (some even more, even some in less number of years) we graduate to work for other people.

Is there inherently bad for someone to work for an employer? Definitely none, but there are damn too many of us Filipino employees and the success of our nation cannot depend on servitude alone. We need more entrepreneurs. We need more businesses to fuel our economy. And for a third-world country such as ours, I can see the Internet as a great tool for us to achieve it.

Here’s why:

1. It is very cheap to get started.
What do you need to start an Internet business? You need $10 for registering a domain name, $4 to get a web hosting for it, and $24 for a decent Internet connection (or just go out to an Internet cafe shop or some place with free WiFi). That totals to just $38 or P1,596 in pesos.

2. There are so many free stuff to help you.
If you want to use WordPress as your blogging platform or CMS, it’s completely free. If you do not want to get your own website, there are many free site hosting services out there (but I go against this). Other software are free: Skype, OpenOffice.org, Firefox (a great tool if you’re into search engine optimization and Internet marketing), the free Google Keyword Tool, CamStudio, and many more.

3. Help is just one question away.
If you’re stuck with something and you have tried everything in your knowledge and skills to fix it, often you will find people on the web who are very willing to help you out. If your question is about Internet marketing, the Warrior Forum is a great place to go to. Basically, for every category related to the Internet you can surely find a dedicated forum where you can get answers to your problems.

What I’m trying to say here is now is the time when we can match other countries in a field where everything has been leveled by technology, skills and knowledge. All we need to do is give Internet marketing a shot.

The key to any Internet marketing success is research. You simply do not go out to buy a domain, build a website around it and then start promoting it. Chances are you will be getting nowhere with it.

Ed Dale, the guy behind The Challenge, explains the importance of Internet market research:

He also mentions something about analysis paralysis, wherein most people are caught stuck in doing too much analysis without even trying it out in the real world. In simple terms, once you’ve had enough research data and analyze all of it, it’s time to give it a try.

I was with some former college classmates and we’ve been through a weekend in Sagada and on our way to Baguio we encountered some landslides, with this one being the biggest because it completely shut the whole road. As I remember it correctly, we got stranded in the bus for about 5 hours.

I do not deny that Venus’ answer during the Q&A of the recent Miss Universe pageant was disappointing and cost her the crown.

But I do not deny the fact that my country is just like the other countries; that there are crimes, shortcomings, and stupidities some place else as well.

It feels like it’s about time that I do my share in putting the Philippines in a better light. In what way, I’m not yet sure, but it has to be something online.

Up to now my kitchen skills are just at the novice level, but watching Alton Brown make cooking both seem easy and fun, I want to improve even if just a bit.

I already asked my wife if we can “invest” in some really good kitchen equipment and tools. By invest it’s my code word for “buying expensive stuff”. She said yes, but one item at a time.

Sounds fair to me.

I failed on my 30-day challenge which is no facebook for the month of July. I just couldn’t resist reading about the updates from my friends.

Does that make me feel less of a person because I couldn’t control myself with something that is deemed very easy to do? Definitely not. It just proves that I need to strive harder to achieve a month-long challenge.

I am currently thinking of what would make a great challenge for me since August is just a day ahead. I’m thinking of something I do offline (makes me feel weird to call my real life, ‘offline’).
